The Phantom Annuals (1967-68)

(World Distributors Ltd.)

1967

1968

Two hardcover Phantom Annuals were published by World Distributors (Manchester) Limited, by arrangement with Western Publishing Company, Racine, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Each album measured 120mm x 270mm (8" x 10 3/4"), ran for 68 pages and was printed in colour. Each Annual contained several prose stories, 24 pages of comic book story, and a variety of "activity pages" ranging from crossword puzzles to animal quizzes. The comic book story in the first volume (1967) was Bill Lignante's Delilah, originally printed in King Comics #23 (Jul 1967). The second volume (1968) contained two stories with art by Bill Lignante, The Historian and Grandpa, both of which were first printed in Gold Key Comics #14 (Oct 1965). These two stories were remakes of The Master Spy (1954 Sunday, S38) and A Proper Husband (1955/56 Sunday, S43), respectively. The prose stories were mostly 3-4 pages long but none acknowledged an author.
